Research Description

A Postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, USA to study the immune response to the glycans expressed by Mycobacterium (Mtb), as part of a large initiative funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Our research team combines biochemistry, immunology, cell biology, and glycobiology to study protein-glycan interactions in a variety of biological settings.  We are the National Center for Functional Glycomics and also house the glycan array facility for the Consortium for Functional Glycomics.

In a collaborative environment, this postdoc will be involved in the generation of glycan microarrays derived from Mtb, characterizing the glycan-specific antibody response from Mtb-infected patients, and identifying promising immunoglobulin candidates for the development of novel therapies.

Techniques include glycan purification, separation and analysis, fluorescence methods, glycan microarrays, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, and others.


  • PhD or MD/PhD with strong motivation and background in biochemistry, immunology, cellular & molecular biology
  • Strong first-author publications
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills in fluent English
  • Independent self-starter who thrives in a large, highly interactive, collaborative scientific environment
